My Story
My weaving story began by chance during a journey through the East. Alongside exploring new places and cultural encounters, I sought to learn and experience the various handcrafts that crossed my path.
During my search, I discovered Sunil's workshop in a small village in the Indian Himalayas, specializing in weaving wool scarves. I was captivated by the region's traditional weaving style, rich in the vibrant colors and geometric complexity that I love so much—a beauty I deeply missed in the environment where I grew up. I was equally drawn to the use of natural textile materials like sheep's wool, cotton, and pashmina, a topic very close to my heart.
I wanted to learn more and more from this world, but my initial learning period was too short—just an early taste during a long journey through South Asian countries. Yet, the passion to continue learning, combined with the feeling that I had found a place that felt like home, and people from whom I could learn so much, led me to return to this very workshop. My goal was to seriously acquire the skills of Himalayan weaving.
Through countless hours of practice and creation under close guidance, an idea sparked within me: to merge traditional and contemporary elements in my work. I wanted to create something new, deeply rooted in the ancient local weaving tradition, yet infused with my own color palette and design ideas. This way, I could express my inner world through the practice of traditional weaving.
This idea took shape and evolved into what stands behind "Tuvi Himalayan"—fabrics of my own design, woven with the help of Himalayan artisans. I find a profound connection to this slow method of creation, a craft full of thoughtfulness, meticulous handiwork, and high quality. I believe this is the right path for me, connecting what lives within me to the traditional Himalayan weaving craft.
This is just the beginning of a journey. Alongside the products on the site, which are, as mentioned, the fruit of our collaborative work at the workshop, I intend to continue coming here to learn, improve, and master the craft myself. I will continue to share the development of my weaving process and the fruits of my labor here.
Tevet.
